Multi-Mode Steering System for Four Wheelers
Published on Feb 12, 2017
The most conventional and general steering arrangement is to turnthe front wheels using a hand–operated steering wheel which is positioned in front of the Driver. The steering column, which contain a universal joint which is part of the collapsible steering column which is designed to allow it to deviate from a straight line according to the Roadmap.
In CONVERTIBLE FOUR WHEEL STEERING WITH THREE MODE OPERATION three steering modes can be changed as needed which assists in parking at heavy traffic conditions, when negotiatingareas where short turning radius is needed and in off road Driving.
Steering is the term applied to the collection of components, linkages, which will allow for a vessel or vehicle to follow the desired course. An exception is the case of rail transport by which rail tracks combined together with railroad switches provide the steering function.
The most conventional steering arrangement is to turn the front wheels using a hand–operated steering wheel which is positioned in front of the driver, through the steering column, which may contain universal joints to allow it to deviate somewhat from a straight line.
Other arrangements are sometimes found on different types of vehicles, for example, a tiller or rear–wheel steering. Tracked vehicles such as tanks usually employ differential steering that is, the tracks are made to move at different speeds or even in opposite directions to bring about a change of course.
When the steering is steered the power is transferred to the front rack and pinion steering gear box, and a bevel gear arrangement is made to transfer the power to the rear rack and pinion steering gear box. Bevel gear is used to transmit the rotary motion perpendicularly, so the one bevel gear is introduced in the front steering rod. Other bevel gear is connected to the transfer rod.
Two supports are used to support the transfer rod. Transfer rod is connected to the rear rack and pinion steering gear box. Rear rack and pinion steering gear box is fixed to the car body by bolts and nuts and the ends of the steering box are connected to the rear wheel hub where the tyres are mounted. As the steering is steered the rear wheels also turn by the arrangements made and the rear wheel turn in the opposite direction by the arrangements in the bevel gear.
The multimode steering system is always having multi operational process.
That is vehicle attached gear box contain lock nut, which is used engaged and disengaged system
Mode1: normally bevel is disengaged which condition is front steering system only turn to front steering only
Mode2: lock nut going to locked position which condition bevel gear always engaged then four wheel steering mode change, it is used easy to car parking and instant of move any directional system.
